Mixer part 1 (05) Am going to share this chapter into parts. Starting from this as Part 1. Looking at the mixer as a new sound person or producer, seems unbelievable with thoughts like: how on earth am i going to know the functions of so many knobs, faders, different colour of lights moving up and down. But hey don’t worry. It looks really complex but very easy once you understand it. In this chapter, am going to talk more about the mixer or mixing board or console. What then is a mixer? Basically an audio mixer is an equipment that receives sound source (instruments) into different channels;balancing volumes and frequencies on each channels and finally sending it out either as mono or stereo. Note: That is basically what the mixer does. But with different types of products out now, mixers now perform more functions than just the basic. Just like the world of mobile phones. The mixer comprises of both inputs and outputs. They are also referred to as input channels and output channels. The mixer is made up of two sections: That is Input Section and output section. Input Section: This is where you find all your input channels, where all sound source are connected into, for the sound source to be amplified into the speakers. I.e where mics and other musical equipments should be connected into. Output Section: This section comprises of all the output channels. Its where sound sources are being sent out to powered speaker (speakers with amp in it) or amp then to speaker.
